EID FEEDLOT IMPRESSES WAITROSE SUPPLIERS

A state of the art EID enabled feedlot was this week the focal point of a visit to Capper Trading, Dungannon by a group including suppliers of beef to Waitrose the UK supermarket chain. The system allows animals to be automatically weighed by attaching the EID reader to a weigh bridge and as animals enter the weighbridge the electronic tag is read and the weight automatically returned to the electronic reader. This information can then be transferred via a mobile connection to the main FarmWizard database for analysis and calculation of live weight gain. “I was very impressed to see the EID system at Capper trading in operation where the technology is bringing enormous time saving benefits. It represents a huge step forward in improving accuracy, and putting clever technology to use, in order to streamline production of beef.” Said Simon Ingle of Dovecote Park Tom White, one of the Dovecote Park beef suppliers said “I was particularly impressed by the simplicity of the system, the ease of recording accurate information, and how quickly that data can be sent back to the computer for analysis. For clever technology to be effective, it must be farmer friendly, and from what I have seen today, FarmWizard has really pulled it off, with great success.”

Dovecote Park, dedicated suppliers of beef to Waitrose have recently announced that it would be utilising the online herd management service FarmWizard for management of all cattle participating in its “Cattle Connect” scheme. The Cattle Connect Scheme, originally established in 2008, was set up to develop an integrated beef supply chain with the focus on consistency and stability throughout. FarmWizard provides a complete solution to beef and dairy farmers managing all required legislative and performance based records. Veterinary medicine books, beef costings and performance records may be maintained providing farmers with a complete grasp of their costs allied to the performance being achieved by their stock.
