FarmWizard Announces “Handsfree” PDA Phone
FarmWizard takes another leap forward in technology with the launch of a PDA phone| FarmWizard this week announced the availability of a completely handsfree version of its herd management PDA. This new PDA phone device enables dairy and beef farmers to record and access livestock information and synchronise to the FarmWizard Website without having to connect to a PC. The same device can be used for making and receiving ordinary voice telephone calls. “FarmWizard is consistently pushing the boundaries of technology to ensure our farmers are getting the latest and most useful technology to help minimise their record keeping work” said FarmWizard’s Mark Elliott. “This new product allows farmers to record information as per a normal PDA with this information being transferred via the mobile phone data network directly to FarmWizard in much the same way that a Blackberry receives email. This then automatically updates the farmer’s herd book, APHIS and if needed Holstein UK and their milk records. One farmer trialling the service is Brian McCracken, a milk supplier from Newtownards. “This system is great, I can transfer my farm records from the PDA to FarmWizard anywhere I want. I can even synchronise my information from the tractor seat” he said. | “I have always found the PDA to be an essential part of running my dairy enterprise. However it has always required me to connect to a computer to transfer the data. Now I don’t even need to do that” he added. For dairy farmers breeding information including calf registrations, veterinary treatments, milk records can all be updated in this manner. Animals may be selected for sales with corresponding weights being recorded. FarmWizard has teamed up with BT Mobile to supply these PDA devices which can be loaded with a SIM card and used for voice and data so that the farmer only needs to carry about one single device. FarmWizard is widely regarded as the most user-friendly herd management solution, as it only requires a web browser and internet access. No software is necessary – if you can browse the internet you can make full use of FarmWizard. FarmWizard is already being used on over 1000 UK farms and the innovation behind it has been acclaimed throughout the world. Last September the company won Irish SME of the year,and in August the 2006 Sybase Technical Innovators award at a glitzy ceremony in Las Vegas. Previously they claimed the 2005 Northern Ireland E-Commerce award for 'Best Use of Broadband' and the 2006 BT Golden Eye award for Mobile Technology. |
