FarmWizard Wins Business Eye Award

FarmWizard, the pioneering internet-based farm management system, has picked up another prestigious award. FarmWizard won the best use of mobile technology category at the annual GoldenEye awards in Belfast. Since its launch last year FarmWizard has enjoyed rapid success, signing up 440 members who now manage the records of more than 100,000 cattle online. FarmWizard managing director Terry Canning said he was pleased to be a winner at the awards. "This a great endorsement for the FarmWizard.com service and an excellent recognition of what the company has achieved since we launched 18 months ago," he said. "With a rapidly growing customer base of over 400 farms across the UK the response and feedback to the service has been excellent." As well as allowing farmers to access and manage records online through fixed terminals, FarmWizard allows them to use the system remotely through handheld PDAs. More than 60 farmers have already signed up for this service.And this caught the attention of judges. "FarmWizard is an example of class leading innovation not just in the agri field but in the broader IT sector," they said. "The ability to use the system on the move harnesses the very latest in mobile technology, adding greater versatility and value to what is already a very good product.'"

The GoldenEye accolade is the second major award for FarmWizard in a matter of months. Last year, it claimed the 2005 Northern Ireland E-Commerce award for 'Best Use of Broadband'. FarmWizard.com is the first internet-based managed service for bovine farmers. It aims to save farmers time and money by providing an easy to use web service to help manage and maintain farm records. It was founded in February 2004 by Terry Canning - an Information Technology Architect. Terry isn't new to farming, the FarmWizard idea came from helping his father and brother, dairy farmers from Co Armagh, to computerise their milk production business. As the project progressed, it became apparent that existing Agri-IT software packages weren't meeting the requirements for today's farmer. Terry went on to develop and found FarmWizard.
