FarmWizard.com has pocketed the 2005 Northern Ireland E-Commerce award for “Best Use of Broadband”.
The agri-internet company attended a gala dinner with special guest of Barry Gardiner MP, parliamentary under Secretary of State for competitiveness, at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London last week. Speaking at the glitzy event, Barry Gardiner commented, "The effective use of ICT can make companies more competitive and productive. There is now significant evidence that shows us that investment in ICT coupled with organisational change is a major enabler for increased productivity. This impact on productivity is why the Government is committed to creating the right conditions and environment to enable companies to exploit ICT in a way that allows innovation and enterprise to flourish within all businesses." He continued, "This year's winning companies provide powerful examples to other businesses in the effective use of ICT. In doing so, they help contribute to a growing knowledge economy and making the UK the best place in the world for e-business." The minister also warned against a digital divide between urban and rural areas with difficulty accessing broadband. He said such a gap could mean that rural businesses miss out on the productivity and efficiency improvements offered by broadband technologies. |
Terry Canning, Farmwizard company founder, said he was pleased to be a winner at the awards’ ceremony.
“The award is a great endorsement for the FarmWizard.com service and an excellent recognition of what the company has achieved since we launched just less than a year ago,’’ he said. “With a rapidly growing customer base of over 200 farms across the UK the response and feedback to the service has been excellent” he added. FarmWizard.com is the first internet-based managed service for bovine farmers, which saves a farmer time and money by providing an easy to use web service to help manage and maintain farm records. It represents an evolution in traditional software based herd packages that required installation of software and maintenance of data on a farmer’s PC. The system integrates fully with a number of databases across the UK to provide a “joined up” view of a farmer’s data.
